I am often struck by the sublimity of some of the things we throw away. These works begin with pieces of discarded packing wood, pressed thin and marked with the signs of practical use. I cut and assemble the pieces, and then seal them with smooth, transparent resin (so that they seem to be cast in honey.) The result contains its own narrative: from living tree with an intricate grain of capillaries, to a cheap and useful material, to useless trash, to a useful thing of pure, deep beauty
